Progress is evolutionary, not revolutionary
Progress is evolutionary, not revolutionary. For me, that statement is revolutionary, creating an instant sense of “AHA!” No wonder everything seems to take so much longer than I expect. Everything we do requires time:
* Time to be introduced to new thoughts, ideas, skills and actions
* Time to study and practice using new thoughts, ideas, skills and actions
* Time to learn, assimilate and master new thoughts, ideas, skills and actions
* Time to share our new knowledge with others
Your predeominant goal right now might be to find love, to bring back the passion in your current love relationship, or to overcome problems and difficulties. You current goal might be to find a job, start a new vocation, create your own business or improve relationships with your boss, co-workers, employees or joint venture partners. Your current goal might be to heal yourself of a chronic illness with a poor prognosis.
Whatever your life goals are, for the present or for the future, remember that progress toward your goal is often very slow, sometimes appearing as if there has been no progress at all. Just continue to focus on what you truly desire, taking all the small steps you can manage going toward your goal. The evolutionarey process will take over and you will gradually be guided toward attainment of your dream.
Watch this simple video now and enjoy your own evolution!

Beverly, I just watched your video about new financial possibilities. But just remember, progress is slow. We have to just keep on taking the steps.

i love simple truths! they always have beautiful videos and messages.
i was taught to be a pack horse, and not a race horse, when i started by business. it’s so fun to go FAST, but it’s always often unsustainable and easy to burn out at an out-of-control pace. a pack horse is slow and steady and always forging ahead.
thanks dr. erica, i love your blog!

I alternate between going gong-ho ahead and then slowing down to enjoy the moments and take my time. Moving forward quickly, doing lots of productive stuff, feels so good – but it has to be balanced with some down time, some reflection, and sometimes just stopping.

Dr. Erica:
I guess I’m one of those who wants to live life on a revolutionary basis. I want everything to happen today… yesterday would be even better. EVERYTHING takes so much longer than I expect.
This is a good reminder to slow down and let the results catch up with me.

I have also wanted so many things to happen yesterday. But I am finally accepting that many things take much longer than anticipated. Patience and persistence is the key.

Beautiful post! I love progress is evolutionary not revolutionary. Progress does seem slow when we’re impatient but going with the flow sometimes will get us to our destination faster (or at least it seems that way).

Janette, Thanks for you comment. Going with the flow or pushing and struggling will probably get you there at about the same time – so why not just relax about it, take the steps and allow it to unfold.

I am always going faster than everyone else it seems and then get so discouraged while I wait for others to catch up, never really thought of it as a process that takes time. Why can’t everything just move at my pace!!! Evolution is so cruel sometimes really is like a butterfly trying to break free of that tomb.

Belinda,
Being an Aries, I tend to do things quickly, but then I may not check out all the possiblities. Then when I work with others, they often take longer and I get frustrated. I am learning that things often take longer than expected. For example, I am creating a new blog site. Each revision requires time – back and forth emails, and waiting. But it is slowly progressing.

This reminds me so much of the slight edge. The problem we have is not believing in ourselves and/or the process and we quit before we reach our goals. That’s why it is so important for us to know that our progress is an evolution and not a revolution. This is a great post. Thanks.

Thanks Debbie,
I have begun to relax since I now realize that my progress in any important endeavor will probably be much slower than I expect. As long as I keep taking steps in my desired direction, good results are sure to follow.

Hi Dr. Erica,
I love this post! And I think everyone can relate to it. I don’t believe anyone fails at anything in life, they simply give up. Reaching your goals takes time. It’s like building a home…one brick at a time!
Thanks for the inspiration,

MaryKay,
I like that, the idea that nobody fails at anything, they just give up. I know the power of persistence. And now I am also learning the power of patience and holding on to the vision of what I want.

“The Slight Edge”
Everyday do the little things that will add up to the “Big” goal.
You can’t see the progress, you feel as though all the work is getting you nowhere, until one day you realize the “slight Edge” has paid off.

Debby, What a great way to explain it, “the slight edge.” So slight, that it is not readily apparent that anything is happening, but it is.

This is such an important reminder even more so today where everyone wants that immediate gratification. It’s also important to always remember to enjoy the journey – half the fun is what happens along the way and if you focus too much on the destination, you miss out. Yes it takes time but anything worth having does and it’s that inch-by-inch that gets us there. Awesome! Thank you, Laura

Laura, I am slowly building my online business, slowly interviewing some experts, being interviewed, writing, building my lists, and taking steps. At first, I felt so totally overwhelmed. But now I am enjoying each piece of the puzzle along the way. When I look back to even one year ago, so much has happened. And then I look forward to one or two years from now, if I just keep taking steps forward….

Erica,

Thanks for such a great post. I don’t know that everything has to go “slow” yet I know it happens in “God time” and not necessarily mine. Sometimes that means that it happens even faster than I want it to happen. It is all about surrender though. And the video was lovely
